TECHNIQUE & CREATIVE MOVEMENT
Class Description

Day: Wednesdays
Time: TBD
Class Fee: $150 (10 classes included)

This class is broken up into two parts: basic ballet technique and creative movement centered in modern dance. Technique ensures a dancer's longevity, prevents injury, builds strength and flexibility, and refines coordination and movement quality; while creative movement applies technique and develops children as artists, providing them opportunities for individual expression and exploration. The creative movement portion of this class will be inspired by different themes and topics from literature.
Students will be taught the elements of dance such as space, time, and energy. Learning these elements provides dancers with a strong base for choreography and performance because they influence the theme/emotional context of dance. The goal is to inspire creativity, inventiveness, and authenticity by giving our young creators interesting topics and time and space to try new things.
We eventually hope to bring in guest artists from UCM and the surrounding community as we recognize the value in exposure to different art styles, mediums, and processes of professionals. We also hope to have an accompanist who can inspire and match the theme/ feeling of the movement and allow for more organic progression through the class. Dancers will have the opportunity to showcase their work at the end of each term.
